Diana's Birthday Gift

This cowl was modified from a lacy project that was originally meant to be worked in the round.  Instead, I worked it with a provisional cast on and attempted to make an invisible join at the end.  Because I used the Italian provisional cast on, did not untwist every second stitch, and had a difficult time finding my provisional stitches at all (I should have worked the last row of the pattern first), the grafting was not invisible.  Still, I think it turned out well, and because it is lacy, the project will work well as a spring or autumn cowl.  I've modified the pattern (below) so that the next graft should be easier.

Diana's Cowl
Size 8 needles; 2 skeins worsted weight yarn (approx 425 yards) (I used Cascade Yarns Cascade 220).
Abbreviations:
  • k2tog – knit two together
  • psso – pass slipped stitch over
  • Sl 1p – slip one purlwise
  • wyib – with yarn in back
  • wyif – with yarn in front
  • YO – yarn over
Instructions:
  1. Provisional cast on 50 stitches.
  2. Row 1 (WS): Sl 1p, k3, place marker, p42, place marker, k4.
  3. Rows 2 - end: Work pattern until desired length, ending with pattern Row 3.
  4. Finishing: Place provisional cast on stitches on separate needle, then use mattress stitch to finish (mattress stitch operates as pattern Row 4).
Pattern:
  1. Row 2 (RS): Sl 1p wyif, k3, slip marker, *sl 1p wyib, k2tog, psso, YO, YO; rep from * to marker, slip marker, k4.
  2. Row 3: Sl 1p wyif, k3, slip marker, *p1, k1, p1; rep from * to marker, slip marker, k4.

Christmas Cowl

I wanted to do some color work for this project and I think the brown and gold turned out really well!  To hide the back, I decided to put a lining in, as well!  That was a little more work than I planned on it being...

Old Project--Dad's Illusion Scarf

I made this scarf last year for my dad.  It's knit using raised purl colors to show a pattern when looking at the scarf on an angle!

Hurricane Sandy Cowl

Because of Hurricane Sandy, I had an especially long weekend. With my two extra days, I made myself an infinity cable ribbed cowl! Looking forward to wearing this out!

Modular Throw

This project started with the tree pattern that I saw online and wanted to knit. There's actually a mistake in there but I think I like the tree better when it's slightly asymmetrical. This is just the purple part, which I'm almost done joining.

It's been nice to work on a project like this for summer. Each block feels like an accomplishment and it's fun to see how the pieces come together in the end.

Update to an older project...

Lauren and I redid this project in our living room. I cut off the names of the colors this time and made the shapes smaller. Also, I tried to get ahold of some brighter hues.  I really like this product a lot better than the earlier version!
